New Year of the Chinese New Year is determined by the Chinese calendar, a lunisolar calendar, which is also used in countries that have adopted Taoist and Confucian traditions or have been influenced by the Chinese, notably the Koreans, the Japanese, the Tibetans, the Vietnamese and the pagan Bulgars. Chinese New Year starts on the first day of the new year containing a new moon (some sources even include New Year's Eve) and ends on 元宵节(Yuan Xiao Jie) fourteen days later. This occurs around the time of the full moon as each lunation is about 29.53 days in duration. In the Gregorian calendar, the Chinese New Year falls on different dates each year, on a date between January 21 and February 20. In traditional Chinese Culture, Lichun is a solar term marking the start of spring, which usually falls on either February 4 or 5.[edit] Days before the new yearOn the days before the New Year celebration, Chinese families give their home a thorough cleaning. It is believed the cleaning sweeps away bad luck and makes their homes ready for good luck to arrive. All brooms and dust pans are put away on New Year's Eve so that good luck cannot be swept away. Some people give their homes, doors and windowpanes a new coat of red paint. Homes are decorated with paper cutouts of Chinese auspicious phrases and couplets (short phrases) that speak of "happiness," "wealth," "longevity."[edit] Reunion dinnerA reunion dinner is held on New Year's Eve where members of the family, near and far, get together for celebration. The venue will usually be in the home of the most senior member of the family. The New Year's Eve dinner is very sumptuous and traditionally includes chicken. Fish (鱼, yú) is included, but not eaten up completely (and the remainder is stored overnight), as the Chinese phrase 年年有余 (nián nián yǒu yú), which means "may there be surpluses every year", sounds the same as "may there be fish every year."Buddha's delight (Traditional Chinese: 罗汉斋; Simplified Chinese: 罗汉斋; pinyin: luóhàn zhāi), an elaborate vegetarian dish traditionally comprising 18 ingredients, is often served by Chinese families on the first day of the New Year. A type of black hair-like algae, pronounced "fat choy" in Cantonese, is also featured in Buddha's delight and other dishes, since its name sounds similar to fat choy, the Cantonese word for "prosperity." Hakka will serve kiu nyuk (扣肉) and ngiong tiu fu. Because certain things and/or food sound alike to certain Chinese well-wishes, the belief is that having one will lead to the other. Most Northerners serve dumplings as the main dish in this festive season and many Chinese around the world do the same because it is believed that dumplings (饺子, jiǎo zi) are wrapped in the semblance of Chinese gold ingots (illustrated) used in ancient China. This gold nugget is called 金元宝 (jin yuán bǎo). However, mandarin oranges are the most popular and most abundant fruit during Chinese New Year amongst Chinese simply because of, inter alia, how the name of the fruit is phonetically similar to gold -- jin ju (金橘子) or kam (金) in Cantonese.Red packets for the immediate family is usually distributed during the reunion dinner.[edit] First day of the new yearThe first day is for the welcoming of the gods of the heavens and earth. Many people abstain from meat consumption on the first day because it is believed that this will ensure long and happy lives for them. Most importantly, the first day of Chinese New Year is a time where family members, in order of their seniority, will pay a visit to their oldest and most senior member of their family. Some families may invite a Lion dance troupe to their home as a symbolic ritual to usher in the Lunar New Year as well as to evict bad spirits from the premises.

Wuhan is a disputed city. People talk about Wuhan, words are always paid lip service, "big", "chaos", "hot." Speaking of big, Wuhan is certainly not China's largest city. On the urban population, it is not as Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, can not be matched; terms of area, although it can be considered one of China's largest city, but a great addition to East Lake, and its built-up area of the built-up area of Tianjin is not phase up and down and does not match with the cities of Beijing and Shanghai. The strange thing is that in China, only the front of the two cities have been dubbed the "big" name, one in Shanghai, and the second is in Wuhan. Wuhan, the "big", perhaps because it gives the geographical features of the "atmosphere" feeling, and perhaps also because the three towns across the Yangtze River in the urban fabric to create a magnificent impression. Wuhan ranked Jianghan Plain, in this city, both rivers, there are lakes and hills. The vast Yangtze River north-south urban areas, in series from the Wuhan cities, watching the Han River split Hankou, Hanyang, there may also be regarded as one of China's lakes, the largest cities, Sand Lake, South Lake, East Lake and other lakes located in urban areas, surrounded by excluding the the number of small lakes, one of the Donghu Lake is China's largest city. Left the entire city has a pro-Western and Eastern Han (Hankou Hanyang), right hold Wuchang, the city has lakes, Lake Ring pattern, appeared endless vast and mighty. Wuhan cities, if the two towns of Wuchang and Hankou were resting in other places could have been regarded as two major cities, not to mention they also fused, so he is simply a giant in the city. Nanjing and Wuhan, all major cities in the Yangtze River side, but in comparison with Wuhan and Nanjing becomes small. I remember once riding a bike to see the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge, Qiaodong sound of bustling city with one of the city scene, but when I looked into Nishi, this is a wilderness, there is a sense of prosperity will make the desolate. And you will not produce this in Wuhan impression on both the Yangtze River Bridge in Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge or the bridge, the two are an endless busy looking over the city. After the night Yangtze River Bridge, the whole flow Rusuo lights, the two sides ablaze with lights and there is a high-rise buildings of Hankou, Simen Kou side under the bridge downtown is shining neon lights. If you get off from the Hankou Railway Station, take up to Wuchang Yu Jia Shan Huazhong University of Science of the bus, the need for nearly one and a half hour. No wonder his first visit to Wuhan, people of this city's first impression is great. Speaking of chaos, it seems that the character of the relevant and Wuhan. The edge of the Yangtze River, like all cities, Wuhan and also has its unique charm. Stood overlooking the Yellow Crane Tower Wuhan cities, you will be deeply beautiful face of the city attracted near the Yangtze River such as the Pallas's floating in the east to the Hongqiao puts up, vehicle shuttling, Guiyi two mountains, distant on the TV, the north shore of Hankow skyscrapers, business flourished, south of Wuchang serene beauty, gentle, distant East Lake looming. In fact, in large cities, there is no way what a city like Wuhan, picturesque scenery. Wuhan play's slogan is "Building landscape garden city", I think, with some even more fundamental than the cities lack of such resources, this slogan does not seem hypocritical, and exaggeration. However, the Wuhan although "nine bird" smart, but in a smart addition to its own kind of put up uninhibited, bold and impulsive temperament. Therefore, it appears Taidalielie. Is not bad as some cities in the natural environment as good Cangzhuo. Therefore, unlike Beijing, Wuhan and tidy as grand, but also not as refined Shanghai foreign flavor. When you walk into the streets of Wuhan, it will lead to "chaos" feeling.

Good morning, dear teacher and my friends. it’s a very intresting topic today. I think my Dad was a hero for me when I was a young child. We'd go fishing, walks, and other fun things for a kid. Every child has a good and great father, and so do I. My dad played a very important role in my daily life`````exactly speaking, in my past 16 years. My father always stands in the center of my life, from past till now and possibly in the future. My family was rather poor when I was in my childhood. We didn't have our own house and had to live in a shabby, small room rented from my father's factory. The room was so small that there was little space for people to walk. I didn't have my own bed and had to sleep with my parents. This is terrible both for my parents and me. But father made this all different!he works very hard on his own business, now we have our own 2 housese, surly,I have my own room.and he take our family so much happiness, richer and richer. When I was little, I did everything with my dad. You could always find me sitting on his knee or walking and doing everything with him. Every night he would read me a bed time story and make the voices of each character. I learnt a lot from my daddy. I learnt to never take things to seriously and to always smile. Like many other fathers, my dad and I also has generation gap. He is not good at or even can’t work the computer. So when I sitting at the computer desk,he will say something like ‘you should pay more attention to your study’, ‘don’t waste time on the computer games’ , ‘it will be bad for your eyes’ and so on. How can I- a computer fan – reduce time on computer? So I continue studying and playing on it Years pasted, my father is over 45 now. It is time for me to look after him and I am sure I will do and we will live an even better life. and i will say,i really love you dad, cause you are the hero in my mind. Thank you so much! Change the world? Change OurselvesGood evening, honorable judges, ladies and gentlemen. It’s my great pleasure to stand here to present my speech—Change the World, Change Ourselves. It’s noticable that western holidays are becoming increasingly popular day by day, while chinese traditional festivals are being somewhat neglected. Not long before about 10 Doctors in Beijing university and Qinghua unversity announced that we should reject the invasion of western holidays ,because they regard western holidays as an challenge against our traditional festivals and culture.Frankly speaking, I don’t quite agree with them.Indeed, we should never neglect or even discard our traditonal festivals as China boasts a brilliant history and splendid traditions. (examples). But why can’t we absorb the meaningful western holidays and culture. There are obvious reasons why some western holidays are so popular in China. On the one hand, some of the western holidays which we Chinese don’t have are reasonable and meaningful, such as Father’s Day and April Fool’s Day etc. On the other hand, the prevalence of globalization enables western culture to prevail in China. Overwhelmed by such a trend,Chinese unconsiciously get involved in western holidays and culture. With the further development of the whole world, the cultural communication between different countries and nations becomes faster and more and more important. We are indeed from different nations, but we are the citizens of the same world, so the outstanding culture of different nations is the commom wealth of everyone on the earth. The only way for us to protect our traditional culture is to reject the foreign culture? The answer is definitely no. What we ought to do is to spare no effort to educate Chinese to get to know and treasure our splendid traditions instead of rejecting foreign culture. Only by educating can we set our confidence and belief towards our culture. Only by educating can we preserve and promote the wealth that our ancesters left for us. At last I’d like to share a famouse saying of Gandhi with all of you ,that is:If you want to change the world, then you must change yourself first.” Goodmoring ladies and gentalmen, I am very gald to stand here to have my speech.Global Citizenship begins at home. Do you know what is the connotation of the Global Citizenship ? To be honest I don’t understand the exactly meaning of the sentence ,so only can I explain it simply .Global Citizenship ,in my opinion ,is not something in word only ,but a kind of responsibility and undertaking ,a way of behaving and thinking .So Global citizenship begins at home ,with a commitment to live responsibility ,to regard all human begins as fellow citizens ,and to be proactive in seeking the common good. For us university students ,usually we are busy with exams or focusing on the incidents in daily life .We hardly pay attention to the global issues. However , as university students ,we should take the responsibility to think about them ,think about the life around us. The world develops quickly, but it wandered from the path it should be. Peace and development have become essential issues. Peace lays a foundation to development. But because of the development, social problems and environmental problems have become serious global problems. Over-population makes us ask for more resources from the limited ones. It causes natural resources fearfully scarce. If we keep on doing so, we will of course lose our reliable living space at last. Apart from the environment we had broke at home ,we Chinese also have no sense to protect it when traveling abroad. Therefore Chinese travelers’ behaviors in foreign countries have made the native intolerable .And the foreigners have the bad influence about our country. So I think the sentence of Global Citizenship begins at home means that everyone should be the global citizen ,should take the responsibility to protect our mother land .Global citizenship begins at home ,let we do it through the children and the parents ,through the school and the society, thou the government .There’s an old saying : Action speaks louder than words. Let’s act now . Thank you all attention.

Gong Xi Fa Cai!恭喜发财 - Happy Chinese New Year新年好!---Happy Chinese New Year!Hi, everybody, Chinese New Year is approaching and I would like to share something with you.At 12:01am on February 18, 2007 the Chinese World will usher in the Year of The Pig Chinese New Year is the most important holiday of the year just like Christmas to you. We settle all the debts we can. We buy oranges for good luck and kumquat金桔 trees to decorate our homes, and clean the house. There will be a family feast, and the older people will give little red packets of luck money (红包) to the youngsters. Usually there is a parade, including lion and dragon dances, stilt walkers, floats and acrobats. And there is noise: fireworks at midnight, gongs, drums and cymbals at the parade. Doorways get a fresh coat of paint and the windows get decorated with paper cut outs. Many families will play cards and board games on the evening of the February 1st while t waiting for midnight. Every light in the house is traditionally left on. Early the next morning, the red money packets are given out. Then people go door to door to wish their neighbors and relatives a prosperous new year. Chinese New Year is a time for family members and the loved ones to get together. It’s a time for people who have been working hard all year round to take a little break. It is a time to receive as well as to give. It is a time to look back .It is also a time to look forward.
