一、创作背景
根据唐代范摅《云溪友议》和《旧唐书·吕渭传》等书的记载，大致可推定这组诗为李绅于唐德宗贞元十五年（799年）所作。
二、作品赏析
这首小诗在百花竞丽的唐代诗苑，同那些名篇相比算不上精品，但它却流传极广，妇孺皆知，不断地被人们所吟诵、品味，其中不是没有原因的。
这两首诗所抒写的内容是人们经常接触到的最熟悉的事情。但是，最熟悉不一定真知道，生活中就有许多熟视无睹的情况，如果一旦有人加以点拨，或道明实质，或指出所包含的某种道理，就会觉得很醒目，很清楚，从而加深了认识。
三、作者简介
李绅（772年－846年），字公垂。祖籍亳州谯县（今安徽省亳州市谯城区古城镇人）。唐朝宰相、诗人，中书令李敬玄曾孙。
李绅六岁时丧父，随母亲迁居润州无锡。三十五岁时中进士 ，补国子助教。后历任中书侍郎、尚书右仆射、淮南节度使等职，会昌六年（846年）在扬州逝世，年七十四。追赠太尉，谥号“文肃”。
李绅与元稹、白居易交游甚密，为新乐府运动的参与者。著有《乐府新题》二十首，已佚。代表作为《悯农》诗两首：“锄禾日当午，汗滴禾下土，谁知盘中餐，粒粒皆辛苦。”《全唐诗》存其诗四卷。
