该曲的原版歌词为英国诗人Jane Taylor的诗集《育儿童谣》中的“一闪一闪小星星”诗歌。

其妹妹为这首歌配以了莫扎特钢琴奏鸣曲KV.265的旋律。因为音乐简单明快，歌词童真雅致，朗朗上口，使这首英国童谣成为了世界范围内最受欢迎的儿歌。

2011年，为向中国儿童普及权威《一闪一闪小星星》儿歌，加强中英两国文化交流，BEC英国文化教育总署邀请了中国当代风头最劲的90后童话作家王雨然，亲自执笔翻译了这首世纪经典儿歌。

那时的小雨然正在英国高等院校进修人文社会学科，却已经是很多奥斯卡电影经典曲目的中国最权威翻译者，中国新童话运动的领军人物。
