1、不要将“etc”用于 "such as" 或 "for example" 引导的介绍性短语中。因为 "such as"本身就意味着讲话者没有列举全。
2、一个句子中不能多次使用 "etc."像这种："I have to do the dishes, wash the car, clean my room, etc., etc., etc., before the party" 是不对的。
3、"and" 后面不能接 "etc."。如果前面再加“and”就显得重复累赘，因为"et cetera"中的 "et"就是“和”的意思。
4、"etc." 不能代指人，只能代指物体。
