去世是大多数人都很忌讳的一件事。所以，在一些英语国家，人们都会用一些委婉的表达，如pass away、pass on、depart、expire、perish、go to meet one’s Maker等等。
这些单词或词组，都比直接用“die”含蓄委婉不少，而且也会使你的表达更加高级，也能一定程度上体现你对已逝之人的尊重之情。不过有一点，需要注意一下，这里的perish多指非正常死亡，比如perish in battle(在战争中死亡)。
go to meet one’s Maker这里需要注意的一点是这个Maker要大写，有造物主的意思，所以去见造物主了就是灵魂回归了，也就是死亡的委婉说法，就像我们也会说某人“去见马克思了”。
