痉挛的英语：convulse。
痉挛是指肌肉突然做不随意挛缩，俗称抽筋，会令患者突感剧痛，肌肉动作不协调。形容肌肉突然紧张，不自主地抽搐的症状。所说的痉挛一般是指肌肉痉挛，差不多可以理解肌肉很强烈的收缩，期间肌肉会有颤动，这时人的意志不能控制。痉挛俗称抽筋。
手部痉挛治疗：轻轻拉直手指。伸开五指，按压指尖，并按摩肌肉。小腿痉挛治疗：做弓步，将痉挛腿向后撤，身体下压。大腿痉挛：坐在地板上，把大腿伸直，然后压下膝部，拉直大腿肌肉。足部痉挛：让患者躺下伸直其膝部和足趾，并用力朝胫骨压足部，再按摩挛缩的肌肉。
在游泳时发生小腿抽筋时，一定不要慌张，先深吸一口气，把头潜入水中，使背部浮在水面，两手抓住脚尖，用力向自身方向拉。一次不行，可反复几次，肌肉就会慢慢松弛而恢复原状。如果带强硬想上岸，往往会适得其反而溺毙。
在日常生活中，小腿抽筋时，可迅速地掐压手上合谷穴和上嘴唇的人中穴。掐压20~30秒钟之后，其有效缓解率可达90%。当腿抽筋时，脚背要用力往上翘至最大幅度，并固定在此位置上，一般在30秒钟内即可解除痉挛。然后保持脚背上翘位置约3分钟，以巩固疗效。
