GRE(Graduate Record Exam) 研究生的入学考试 GRE考试是研究生的入学考试，它适用于除了法律（需参加LSAT考试）与商业（需参加GMAT考）以外的各种学科与专业的研究生考试。GRE考试分为两种，一种是普通GRE考试（GRE General），也就是大部分中国学生参加的GRE考试。另一种是专项GRE考试(GRE Subject)。参加GRE专项考试的中国考生并非很多，因为大多数美国院校不要求提供专项GRE成绩，只要求普通GRE成绩。但申请研究生专业与申请人本科专业不一致的申请人，是需要提供专项GRE成绩的。例如A君在中国获得某大学物理专业学士学位，希望到美国改读经济硕士学位(Master of Arts in Economics),那么就需要提供GRE经济专项考试成绩，如果希望改读生化硕士学位，就需要提供GRE生化专项成绩。如果本科所学习的专业与申请研究生专业相同，一般不必提供专项成绩。 有些美国名牌大学把GRE专项成绩作为“推荐成绩”：即希望申请人能够提供此项成绩，无论本科专业是否与其申请研究生专业相同，但不把它作为必须要求。这时若能提供专项GRE成绩是很有利于申请奖学金资助的。因此，如果申请人若有较为充足的时间，不妨参加专项考试，一个优秀的专项GRE成绩很能反映申请人的专业素质与学习潜力。GRE普通考试是申请研究生入学的必要考试，申请法律或商业学研究生以LSAT或GMAT替代GRE普通考试。目前美国大学在成绩替代上比以往要求松些。许多学校是可以提供GRE普通考试或GMAT考试成绩的任何一种作为商业类研究生应提供的成绩，法律研究生亦有以GRE普通考试成绩替代LSAT成绩的。
